Our 2012 Olympic Challenge

5_gold_rings_colour_jpegIn this Olympic year 2012, members of Chineham Park Running Club are aiming to log 2,012 miles of running, jogging and  walking each month. We are proud to announce that we have entered into the community spirit by registering our challenge with Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council who have given us their full support.

We keep a monthly journal of miles banked to see just how close we can get to reaching 2,012 miles:

January - 2,030 miles
February - 1.494 miles

We are also in talks with Chineham Parish Council to see if we can hold a public event at Chineham Village Hall to encourage members of the public to add to our running total by completing measured laps of the community field. We will update this website with more details as soon as we get them.

We welcome all new members that are 18 years of age or over. All we ask is that you contact us first so that you can turn up on a coached night, so we can make you feel welcome and meet the other members of the club.

We also need to know a little bit about you before we can allow you to take part in our group runs; especially if you have any medical conditions or injuries that could affect your participation in club activities.

We support our local parkrun in Basingstoke which takes place every Saturday morning at 9:00am in The War Memorial Park.

As a club we encourage members to participate when they can and we make a special effort to turn out as a club every second Saturday of the month to congratulate members and fellow runners who are presented with parkrun achievement t-shirts.

Membership or 'Subs' are £5 per member per month and are payable on the first Wednesday of each month to participate in club activities.

CPRC also support charity events as we feel it is important to combine our love of running with helping out good causes. Our current club Captain Jason Burke will soon be off to take part in The Marathon Des Sables, you can read his story 'The toughest footrace on earth'.

The group is a broad mix of age and running abilities at training sessions, to which you will never feel you are holding anyone back or be running on your own. We actively encourage a running buddy system that you can also use to help you in your own personal training goals

Members of the CPRC group regularly take part in local running events at various distances including 5km, 10km, 10mile, Half Marathon and full Marathon road races.

Chineham Park Running Club (CPRC) has just helped 13 Basingstoke residents put on their trainers and catch the running bug!

In November of 2011, the Club embarked on promoting a healthy lifestyle andrunning initiative by offering its first ‘Beginners Course’.

In January of this year, the group of 11 women and 2 men were invited by the club totake part in the course. Participants were encouraged and supported through a 10-week structured training programme that took them from walking in week one tocompleting a (non-stop) 5km run in week ten. The group successfully completedtheir course by taking part in the Basingstoke parkrun at the War Memorial Park onSaturday 24th March.
